Causing earthquakes

Is there a word for the opposite of magical thinking? I wouldn't know, because I didn't even know that there was a term for what it was until this summer.

(Magical Thinking: The belief that one's thoughts, words, or actions will produce an outcome that defies normal laws of cause and effect; the belief that one's words have the power to make things happen. For example, a client may believe his or her thoughts can cause earthquakes. Occurs in schizophrenia.)

It mostly happened to me with police cars. Whenever I thought about them, I saw one. Or at least that's what I thought was happening, until I decided to actually pay attention to the number of times I saw police cars without thinking about them. And then I realized I was making it up in my head and it's all a matter of what you pay attention to.
So what is it when I think that once I stop thinking about something it will probably happen? When I get rid of phone numbers, make technical eraser marks, and then there you are again. Isn't the process of deciding not to think about something anymore a way of thinking about something? Yes, it is. I am answering my own question. The best part about this is that I'm writing in an attempt to stop thinking about it, which is the exact opposite of what should be happening, which doesn't make me magical, just stupid.
